About the Project

You may have heard of Kyle MacDonald, who was able to essentially build a single red paperclip into a house through a series of trades:

The purpose of the Mother Colony Paperclip Project is to see where a series of trades may take us. Hopefully, we'll end up with an item or items, of significantly greater value than the original red paper clip. We need to make at least 5 exchanges, the final exchange must occur no later than Dec. 1st. There are two important and unique aspects to note in this process:

1. The final item or items, will be donated to charity, compliments of the Anaheim Colony Historic District
2. All exchanges will be restricted to members of the Mother Colony e-mail group

If you are considering trading an item, please contact me directly at retroranch@sbcglobal.net. Be sure to include a picture of the item. Also, please read the important items below:

When we agree on the exchange, I'll visit your home to exchange the items or we can agree on another meeting place. I'll take your picture with the item you are trading, and place it on this blog. Additionally, I'll send a notice to the Mother Colony e-mail group notifying everyone of your contribution, and letting them know of the next item or items up for trade.

If your exchange happens to provide the final item or items, you and I will together determine the charity or charities that will receive the item(s).

If the final item(s) are valuable, but do not have significant charitable valuable (for example, a vintage clock), I will auction the item on eBay, with 100% of the proceeds going to charity.

All items exchanged must be tangible goods or services. Cash or equivalents cannot be traded.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me for an exchange. The quicker we accomplish the trades, the more time we’ll have to build value with subsequent trades, ultimately coming up with a significant donation.

Thanks, and let’s have fun!

Dan
