Item 6: Four Vintage Theater Chairs

Next up for trade is this set of 4 extremely cool, vintage theater chairs. I don’t know the history of the chairs, but based on their design, I’d estimate they’re probably from the 40’s or 50’s.

click any image to enlarge.

One of the seats has a finished side to face an aisle on the right side. All four chairs recline, and feature independent arm rests. The chairs are surprisingly comfortable. Additionally, all four chairs have a built-in pocket in their backs for programs, playbills, or remote controls. They’re in good condition, with a few scratches. However, the upholstery is in excellent shape. These chairs would add a unique touch to a retro home theater, or a basement or game room. They come as a full set of 4.

If you are interested in the chairs, and would like to get a closer look or make a trade, or you may have an idea of their history, please don’t hesitate to contact me at: retroranch@sbcglobal.net.

Sit back and relax… enjoy the show!

Clock / Ticket Blitz

In a blitz of two trades made within 15 minutes, the antique clock found a new home and a couple of ducks tickets went to a deserving fan. Tracy is now the happy owner of the clock.

She traded two lower-level tickets to tonight’s Ducks game.

George is the very deserving recipient of the tickets.

Enjoy the game George!

The next very cool trade is coming soon.

Item 4: Antique German Clock

The next item for trade is this beautiful antique clock. The exact date and manufacturer is unknown. However, the inside plate behind the face appears to have the word “GERMANY” printed on it, but has been partially rubbed off.

The clock mechanism has been replaced by an electric clock motor that runs off a single AA battery. The original chime is still in place, but does not function.

This wonderful clock is in excellent condition. There is a small chip in the top-right corner, but the finish and detail are exceptional. It seems to be hand-carved, and would look fantastic on any mantle.

(Coke for scale only)

If you’d like to find out more about this clock, or may be interested in trading for it, please contact me directly at retroranch@sbcglobal.net.

Don’t be late!

Item 2: Call Me Crazy T-Shirt

The second item up for trade is a "Call Me Crazy" t-shirt commemorating the Anaheim Renovator's House Tour of 1987 or 1988. Click image to enlarge

The artwork, by the 30th Street Architects, features the 200 block of North Claudina.

It is size XL, and has only been worn once by the RCA Victor spokes model in a recent photo shoot. This is an opportunity to own a very rare piece of Anaheim history, and look great in the process. If you have an item you would consider trading for this amazing t-shirt, please contact me directly at retroranch@sbcglobal.net.

Thanks,

Item 1: One Red Paperclip

The first item for trade is a single red paperclip. It measures approximately 1-3/8” long by 3/8” wide. It has never been used to bind paper, and is in extremely good condition.

Click on image for enlarged view.

Since this is the very first item in the project, and marks the beginning of a lineage of trades that hopefully leads to a sizable charitable donation, I’d like to invite you to be the proud owner of this significant item. If you have something you would like to exchange for this paperclip, our you'd like to see more pictures or get more details, please read the "About the Project" post below, and e-mail me directly at retroranch@sbcglobal.net. Please include a picture of your item in your e-mail.

Thanks for your consideration,

Dan

About the Project

You may have heard of Kyle MacDonald, who was able to essentially build a single red paperclip into a house through a series of trades:

Check out the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BE8b02EdZvw

The purpose of the Mother Colony Paperclip Project is to see where a series of trades may take us. Hopefully, we'll end up with an item or items, of significantly greater value than the original red paper clip. We need to make at least 5 exchanges, the final exchange must occur no later than Dec. 1st. There are two important and unique aspects to note in this process:

1. The final item or items, will be donated to charity, compliments of the Anaheim Colony Historic District
2. All exchanges will be restricted to members of the Mother Colony e-mail group

If you are considering trading an item, please contact me directly at retroranch@sbcglobal.net. Be sure to include a picture of the item. Also, please read the important items below:

When we agree on the exchange, I'll visit your home to exchange the items or we can agree on another meeting place. I'll take your picture with the item you are trading, and place it on this blog. Additionally, I'll send a notice to the Mother Colony e-mail group notifying everyone of your contribution, and letting them know of the next item or items up for trade.

If your exchange happens to provide the final item or items, you and I will together determine the charity or charities that will receive the item(s).

If the final item(s) are valuable, but do not have significant charitable valuable (for example, a vintage clock), I will auction the item on eBay, with 100% of the proceeds going to charity.

All items exchanged must be tangible goods or services. Cash or equivalents cannot be traded.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me for an exchange. The quicker we accomplish the trades, the more time we’ll have to build value with subsequent trades, ultimately coming up with a significant donation.

Thanks, and let’s have fun!

Dan

About Me

Hi Neighbors!

My name is Dan. I’ve lived in the Colony since 2001. My wife, Jennifer and I have lived in a Craftsman bungalow at 1007 West Broadway. In 2003, the bungalow (aka the Grange House) was granted the Mills Act designation. Jim & Betty are the current owners and have proudly added the famous Anaheim Basement Pub. Also in 2003, we moved into our current residence on Helena St. - a 1954 custom ranch. Currently, our retro-ranch is bustling and active with our two children, Zachary and Zoe. A few months ago, our house (aka the Schutz House) became an inaugural member in the new Hoskins historic district, and received a Mills Act designation. We are extremely proud of this, and we love our home and our neighborhood dearly.

This project is part of a class I am taking for my Master’s program at Chapman University. The exercise is intended to explore how a simple item with little value can ultimately lead to and item of significantly more value through a series of trades. However, I’ve added a few twists to the exercise that should be fun and interesting. Namely, the final item will be donated, and all trades are restricted to members of the Mother Colony e-mail group. Let’s have fun with this, and do some good in the process!

Thanks,

Dan
